The order to hand over the additional responsibility of the post of Director General of Telangana Police to 1990 batch officer of Indian Police Service Ravi Gupta has been issued by Chief Secretary A. Shanthi Kumari. IPS Ravi Gupta is the Director General of Anti Corruption Bureau and he also has the additional charge of Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement. This additional charge has been fully entrusted to Ravi Gupta. Both orders , regarding suspension of DGP Anjani Kumar and new charge to Ravi Gupta , have been implemented with immediate effect.
Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar is accused of approaching Telangana Pradesh Congress President A Revanth Reddy to congratulate him during the counting of votes for the state assembly elections. A Revanth Reddy was also contesting the assembly election as a candidate. DGP Anjani Kumar’s act, before the results of counting of votes came out , is considered as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. As a result, the Election Commission ordered his suspension. The Commission took cognizance after the pictures of this meeting went viral on social media.
The Election Commission has also issued notice to two other officers of the rank of Additional Director General, Mahesh M Bhagwat and Sanjay Kumar Jain, making them accused of violating the code of conduct.The also met Mr. Reddy before the final results of counting . Both the officers have been asked why action should not be taken against them also for violating the code of conduct. IPS officers Mahesh M Bhagwat and Sanjay Kumar Jain have been given a chance to explain their act.
