Three police personnel, including two officers, have been killed in an accident after their vehicle collided with a truck in Bagalkot on Thursday. They were on way to Bagalkot for election duty. The deceased have been identified as CID Deputy SP Balagouda (55 years), CID CPI KH Shivaswamy (55 years ) and driver Venu Gopal (23 years ).The accident occurred when the driver of the jeep collided with the lorry parked at the roadside.
The incident took place on Wednesday midnight at Kudala Sangam Cross in Bagalkote Taluk. The bodies have been shifted to Bagalkot district hospital. DySP Balagouda worked in the crime department and known as upright officer, he had served in Tumkur and Bangalore.
A case has been registered in Bagalkote rural police station. The lorry driver is absconding and search is on.
