Vivek Phansalkar , 1989 batch IPS officer, has taken charge as Police Commissioner of Mumbai. Vivek replaced IPS Sanjay Pande, who was appointed Mumbai CP just four months ahead of retirement.
Vivek Phansalkar took charge of his assignment at the police commissioner’s office situated at Crawford Market in South Mumbai yesterday around 4.45 pm . He has served the Maharashtra Police in various key capacities.
Vivek Phansalkar’s past stints include serving as the Chief of Maharashtra ATS . Since 2018, IPS Vivek Phansalkar has been serving as the Thane police commissioner. Prior to that, since 2016, he had been the Additional Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau of Mumbai. Prior to his latest assignment Shri Phansalkar was serving as the Director General and Managing Director of the Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
Vivek Phansalkar’s appointment comes a day ahead of the crucial floor test of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government, when it was battling a survival crisis following a rebellion powered by Shiv Sena strongman Eknath Shinde.
