Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Police Service, came into limelight when he raided and arrested Mohammad Shahabuddin, MP from Siwan, in Delhi. This incident dates back to 2005 when, during the elections to the Legislative Assembly, he returned from central deputation and was posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Saran range in Bihar. During that period , an information about the absconder Md. Shahabuddin living in Delhi’s Dwarka area was received. Rajwinder formed a team of 5 officers and went to Delhi . Firstly after the recee a woman sub-inspector Gauri Kumari was sent inside the flat on the pretext of investigating a case of power theft. When it was confirmed that Shahabuddin was present inside, a raid was conducted and he was arrested.
Because it was risky to bring Shahabuddin by road or train due to security reasons, the accused was brought to Patna through a special helicopter. After this incident, DIG Rajwinder Bhatti clamped down on some other musclemen as well and conducted similar operations. Due to security reasons, he had to go on central deputation again. Rajwinder served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Apart from Mohammad Shahabuddin, he had taken the same action on Saran’s domineering leader and former MP Prabhunath Singh. He also clamped down on Dilip Singh, elder brother of former Mokama MLA Anant Singh. IPS RS Bhatti has been the City SP in Patna. He has also been District SP in Siwan, Purnia, Bokaro (presently in Jharkhand) and many other places.
