Five governors changed: Ajay Bhalla to head violence-hit Manipur, General VK Singh sent to Mizoram

 President of India Draupadi Murmu appointed two new governors and reappointed three others. An announcement to this effect was done on Tuesday .This led to reorganization of leadership in five states.

Ajay Bhalla in Manipur:

Former Union Home Secretary and an experienced administrator Ajay Kumar Bhallahas been appointed as the new Governor of Manipur in place of Anusuiya Uikey.  Becoming the Governor of Manipur amid the long-standing violence and deepening ethnic conflict is  a challenging task for Shri Bhalla .

Ethnic conflict  intensified in Manipur in May 2023. Even after more than one and a half years, the conflict remains unresolved, due to which the governance is in disarray. Also, it remains a political issue, which is being considered a point of failure and infamy for the ruling National Democratic Alliance government at the Center.

New Governor of Bihar:
Another important appointment has been made of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. He has been re-appointed as the Governor of Bihar where assembly elections are going to be held. It is noteworthy that Mohammad Arif Khan was involved in a long-running public dispute with the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in the state of Kerala.

General VK Singh:

Other major appointments include Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has been transferred to Odisha. In his place, former Indian Army Chief General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh will serve as the Governor of Mizoram. 73-year-old General VK Singh has been an MP from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh who won the Lok Sabha elections twice on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. VK Singh has also been a minister in the central government.

Meanwhile, Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been re-appointed as the Governor of Kerala.
