There is a possibility of starting the award of service medals in the forest department of Uttarakhand on the lines of armed forces , police etc.  Such indications have been received from the positive reaction of Uttarakhand Forest and Environment Minister Subodh Uniyal during  the annual conference of Indian Forest Service Association.

The annual conference of the Indian Forest Service Association (Uttarakhand) began on Saturday at the Manthan Auditorium in the Forest Department Headquarters on Rajpur Road where Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal was the chief guest. Chief Forest Conservator Dr. Dhananjay Mohan, Association President Kapil Lal, along with senior officials of the Forest Department and Indian Forest Service officers were present here.

On the first day of the conference, issues like conservation of forest wealth, environment etc. were discussed. The proposals put forward on this occasion include the demand to give the status of ‘ Martyr ‘ to forest personnel who lose their lives in  wildlife attacks and to give an amount of Rs 25 lakh as financial assistance to their dependents.

To reward the forest personnel doing excellent work, a request was made to award the Governor’s Excellent Service Medal, Chief Minister’s Commendable Service Medal and Forest Force Chief Prestigious Medal.

Another proposal in the form of a proposal before the Forest Minister was to create ‘Forest Lines’ on the lines of police lines. The proposal states that one forest line each should be established in Garhwal region (Dehradun) and Kumaon (Haldwani) for frontline forest staff.
