Raised in 1948, Police of Indian Capital City got its own Head Quarters building on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel , the first Home Ministrer of Independent India. Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed building for Delhi Police Headquarters at Jai Singh Road in New Delhi.
Features :
New building is state-of-the-art complex constructed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and is spread over an area of 8 acres. Centrally located PHQ is in the vicinity of Parliament house. The new building will have twin towers with Ground and 17 storeys, along with 12 residential quarters for officers. The salient features of the building include its design in vertical setbacks with added additional safety against Earth Quake for seismic zone 5.
Eco freindly :
Interestingly, in order to make it environment-friendly, fly ash bricks and AAC blocks using adhesive compound have been used to avoid use of fertile soil and water as required for conventional mortar and curing. There are provisions of harvesting the rainwat for complete utilization of rain water and modern sewage treatment plant for complete recycling of sewage waste for horticulture and flushing. The entire building has been fitted with latest LED lights and windows with DGU glasses for minimum power consumption.
In addition, the provision of two basements of double height with efficient ventilation and air circulation system will help solve the parking problem. The state-of-the-art 500 seated Auditorium with ultra-modern sound system, along with LED stage lights and high-resolution video projector, will be an asset for utilization for regular briefings of Delhi Police officers. There are special provisions of lounge and briefing room for media persons.
Fulfil all needs :
For last 71 years Delhi Police had been functioning from different buildings which were not its own. The present building of Delhi Police Headquarters at ITO crossing, belongs to Public Works Depertment. This building was insufficient to house all the functionally required offices, control rooms, conference rooms, coordination and communication centres etc. The new Police Headquarters building at Jai Singh Road will cater to all the above needs of Delhi Police under a single roof. Owing to its central location in the heart of city with modern facilities, Delhi Police will be in a better position to monitor and control its operational activities.
Accessibility :
Moreover, owing to its central location, it will be accessible to public from all corners of Delhi for redressal of their grievances. The building will be disabled-friendly and will have provisions for crèche/child friendly room. The public facilitation officers at receptions will give a feeling of belongingness to the aggrieved persons visiting the headquarters.
Blessings of Sardar Patel :
Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, in his welcoming address presented a brief history and duties being performed by Delhi Police, and said that Delhi Police, in the post-Independence era, had got the blessings of the first Union Home Minster, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on many occasions, and is privileged to have got its own headquarters inaugurated on the occasion of his birth anniversary. He assured everyone that with this new complex, Delhi Police will be able to serve the society with renewed vigour and self-confidence.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated all ranks of Delhi Police and remarked that it was a moment of pride that this building is being inaugurated on the occasion of birth anniversary of Lauhpurush Sardar Patel. He said the youth of this country should not just study Sardar Patel, but should also try to imbibe his virtues like simplicity, selflessness, patriotism, grit and determination, to take the country forward. He commended the hard work of policemen and said that if there is one government department that works without looking at their watches, it is the police department. In the end, he paid homage to the martyred policemen and dedicated the building to their sacrifices.

LG of Delhi Anil Baijal, Minister of State for Home G.Kishan Reddy, Unioin Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Home Secretary and Chief Secretary of Delhi Vijay Dev were among the degnetaries present on the ocassion. Also present were Retired police Commissioners, senior officers and men of Delhi Police, representatives of RWAs/MWAs, YUVA trainees and Police Mitras.
