The Home Department of Uttarakhand Government, in its fresh , has made new appointments on two posts of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Nainital district. The Home Department of Uttarakhand is under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
According to these orders issued on January 14, Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer Prakash Chand has been posted as the new ASP Haldwani. Earlier, he was holding the rank of Deputy Commandant in the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (2 Bn IRB) based in Dehradun. According to this order, ASP Harbans Singh has been removed from Haldwani (city) and made ASP Nainital.
The above officers have been asked to assume the responsibilities of the new post with immediate effect.
Although these transfers are said to be a part of the routine transfer order of the police, they are also being seen in the wake of the recent disturbance in Haldwani. Violence broke out during the demolition of illegal construction in Vanbhoolpura area of Haldwani in which Five people lost their lives and more than 100 were injured.
A large number of those injured in the Haldwani violence were policemen. There was heavy stone pelting and the miscreants also threw petrol bombs. However, reports of the possibility of such violence had already been received and the police administration was prepared to deal with it. Despite this, the widespread violence has become a reason for criticism of the police.
