Harsh Bardhan, originally from Madhya Pradesh, joined the Indian Police Service only last year. After completing his training, he got his first posting in Hassan district of Karnataka.
The accident happened when the tire of the police vehicle, in which he was traveling , reportedly burst and the driver lost control over it. The vehicle is said to have collided with a roadside house and a tree.
IPS Harsh Bardhan was posted as Probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Holenarsipur and was going to Hassan to report for his duty.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and said that “this should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off”. “Saddened to hear about the death of Probationary IPS Officer Harsh Vardhan in a horrific accident near Kittane border on Hassan-Mysore Highway. It is very sad that such an accident happened when he was on his way to take charge as an IPS officer. This should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off,” he posted on Twitter in Kannada. .
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda called it a “tragic loss”. “India has lost a dedicated young officer,” Mr Gowda, a former Lok Sabha member, posted on X.
