India’s largest central armed police force Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is celebrating its 85th Raising Day today. Various programs are being organized on this occasion. In the main program in Delhi, Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Kumar Deka honored CRPF personnels who performed their duty in a spectacular manner. The wives or family members of the soldiers and officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty received the medals.
In his address on the occasion, Sujoy Lal Thousen, Director General, CRPF while mentioning the achievements of the force said that CRPF is the Central Armed Police Force with the highest number of gallantry medals in India. CRPF has so far received 2469 gallantry medals in 84 years of service. CRPF has received 10 gallantry and 187 police medals for gallantry during 2022-23.
DG CRPF Sujoy Lal Thausen while paying homage at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi remembered the soldiers of the force who laid down their lives in the line of duty. A special parade was organized by CRPF on this occasion. CRPF Director General Mr. Thousen offered a wreath on the rock.
The first battalion of CRPF was raised on 27 July 1939 at Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh during the British rule in India.CRPF was identified as the Crown Representative’s Police i.e CRP during that period. Its name was changed on December 28, 1949, by passing a resolution in the Parliament.
The date of celebrating the raising day of CRPF has also been changing. Last year it was celebrated in March in Jammu.
