Reshuffle in Punjab police ahead of elections

Months ahead of assembly elections, a major reshuffle in the Punjab Police took place on Friday evening with Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana getting new Police Commissioners. As many as 41 officers including an Additional Director General of Police, two Commissioners of Police (CP), one zonal Inspector General, two DIGs and 13 SSPs, were transferred on late Friday evening.

The reshuffle came a day after IPS officer Praveer Ranjan took charge as the UT DGP in Chandigarh on Thursday.

According to available information, ADGP Shashi Prabha Dwivedi has been posted as ADGP of the Vigilance Bureau. IG Naunihal Singh has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana. He has succeeded IG Rakesh Aggarwal, who has been transferred as IG- Ropar Range. Vikramjeet Duggal has now been posted as Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, while Dr Sukhchain Gill has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar.

Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has been posted as DIG, Ludhiana, while Gurpreet Singh Toor as DIG-Patiala Range.

The new SSPs and their station of posting are: Swapan Sharma-Sangrur; Dhruman H Nimbale-Moga; Vivek Sheel Soni-Ropar; Amneet Kondal- Hoshiarpur; Charanjit Singh-Muktsar; Bhagirath Singh Meena- Barnala; Gurdial Singh-Ludhiana Rural; Harmanbir Gill-Nawanshahar; Ajay Maluja-Bathinda; Ashwani Kapoor-Batala; Rajpal Singh-Ferozepore; Opinderjit Singh Ghuman-Tarn Taran; and Sandeep Goel-Fatehgarh Sahib.

Earlier in the day, the police department organise a welcome parade for the new DGP Praveer Ranjan in Chandigarh Police headquarters. IPS officer Praveer Ranjan ( a 1983 AGMUT cadre) has succeeded DGP ( UT)Sanjay Beniwal who handed him the charge on Thursday.  A 1989 Batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, Baniwal had joined the Chandigarh Police on three-year deputation in June 2018.

Ranjan, who was posted as Special CP (Crime) in Delhi Police, was relieved last week. His order for the new posting was issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
