Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava has granted out of turn promotion to brave Constable Rajiv for showing exemplary courage. Rajiv has been given promotion as Head Constable. Posted in sector 23 police station of Dwarka district Rajiv joined Delhi Police in the year 2010 as a Constable.

Rajiv showed exemplary courage in apprehending and rounding up the armed desperate criminals without caring for his life. He retaliated and fired at the criminals despite sustaining serious bullet injury on his face while falling on the ground. He was admitted and operated upon in the Hospital and is still under observation in ICU.

Incident happened on the night of march 15th when Ct. Rajiv was patrolling in the area along with Delhi Home Guard Ajay Kumar on the near Village Bharthal, L&T Construction site in Sector 26 of Dwarka. After getting information through the guard about firing at L&T construction site both of them rushed to the spot, but the assailants had escaped by then, when they reached.

Both of them searched the area for the fleeing assailants and during that they observed some suspicious movements in a plot located at outer periphery of Village Bharthal. They entered the premises and asked the suspicious looking person to surrender for questioning. All the four suspected person ran away in different directions. Rajiv and Ajay somehow managed to overpower one of the fleeing suspects but while taking him for further questioning to the Police Station , the escaped three assailants returned back and opened fire at Ct Rajiv in order to get their associate released from their custody.

According to a press release, Ct. Rajiv showing exemplary courage at that point of time, retaliated and fired at the assailants despite sustaining serious bullet injury on his face at right side while falling on the ground. Later, on the basis of provided information, police teams carried out searches and arrested 2 assailants within 12 hours of the incident and subsequently 2 more accused were arrested.
