The Home Ministry  has changed its February 9 decision of appointing Madhup Tiwari as the police chief of City Beautiful Chandigarh replacing Praveer Ranjan. Shri Yadav is a 1997 batch officer of the Indian Police Service (AGMUT cadre). In  earlier order he was transferred to the post of Director General of Police of Andaman and Nicobar. In Andaman Nicobar,  he was supposed to replace IPS Devesh Srivastava, a 1995 batch officer.

The Home Ministry had issued two separate orders on 9 February. One  was about the transfer of IPS Praveer Ranjan. He was removed from the post of DGP of Chandigarh and was appointed  Additional Director General in Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). According to the modified  order , issued by the Home Ministry yesterday (12 March 2024), IPS Surender Singh Yadav posted in Delhi will now be posted as DGP of Chandigarh. In the same order it has been said that the transfer of Madhup Tiwari and Devesh Chandra Srivastava, both officers of 1995 batch (AGMUT cadre), stands  cancelled with immediate effect till further order.
