Extortion case against Top Cop Param Bir Singh in Mumbai

An FIR has been registered against the top cop Param Bir Singh, a former Police Commissioner of Mumbai , on the basis of a complaint filed by a businessman in Marine Drive police station. The complainant has alleged that IPS Param Bir Singh demanded rupee 15 Crore from him through a Deputy Commissioner rank officer.and few other police officers are also involved in it. A Mumbai court has sent two other accused to seven days police custody remand in the same case.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra state government has given green signal to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to conduct an open inquiry into the allegations of corruption against IPS Param Bir Singh made by inspector Arun Dange, an another police officer of Maharashtra. Inspector Dange was suspended last year and also reinstated into service this year only.

The complaint has been lodged against former police commissioner Param Bir Singh and others for allegedly demanding Rs 15 crore from a builder to withdraw cases against him. Two of the businessmen’s partners, Sunil Jain and Sanjay Punamia, have been arrested in the case.

IPC sections :

IPS Param Bir Singh has been charged under different sections of Indian Penal Code i. e. sections 387, 387, 389 for extortion, section 403 for dishonest misappropriation of converts to his own use, 409 for criminal breach of trust by a public servant, 420 for cheating, 423 for fraudulent execution of deed of transfer, section 464 for creating of false document in the name of a fictitious person, 465 and 467 for forgery, 120 B for being party to criminal conspiracy etc.

IPS Param Bir Singh :

An officer of the 1988 batch of Indian Police Service, Parm Bir Singh was removed as Mumbai police commissioner and transferred to the post of the Director General , Maharashtra Home Guard in March this year. This happened after the arrest of dismissed police officer Sachin Waze in the case of an ‘explosives laden vehicle ‘ found near the residence of Mukesh Ambani , one of the richest industrialists.
