Jammu Kashmir Police mourns heroic loss of Inspector Masroor Wani

Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani of Jammu and Kashmir Police , succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, more than a month after he was shot in a playground in Capital Srinagar. Inspector Masroor Wani was shot by militants while he was playing cricket near the locality of his residence at  Eidgah grounds on October 29, a Sunday afternoon, leaving him critically injured.

According to a statement , the Director General of Jammu Kashmir Police,  R.R. Swain has condoled the heroic loss of Inspector Masroor Ahmad who succumbed to injuries at (AIIMS) New Delhi on Thursday.

After Masroor Wani was shot, he was taken to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for treatment, where he went under surgeries. Hospital sources had told media that the inspector was hit in his lungs and head.Later on the injured Inspector was shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi.

In his message, the DGP has said, “as the Director General of Police, it is with profound sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani.”

Today, we mourn the loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani, a courageous officer who valiantly served amidst the looming threat of terrorism. His sacrifice embodies the harsh reality our J&K policemen face, dedicating their lives to shield our communities from the shadows of terrorism, the DGP has stated.

He said that Inspector Wani’s tragic sacrifice reminds us of the immense challenges our personnel encounter daily, even in moments of leisure. It is a grim reminder of the perils faced by our brave personnel while safeguarding the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the face of this heartbreaking loss, our thoughts and prayers are with Inspector Wani’s family, friends, and the entire police fraternity. We stand united in mourning this profound loss and honoring his memory, the DGP has said.

Masroor Wani (37) served in the J&K Police for over 12 years . He was posted in various districts of North, South and Central Kashmir. Married in 2021 , Inspector Masroor had a child on the way. His father has also served in the J&K Police.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir , Omar Abdullah said Wani “put up a very brave fight after being injured when he was fired upon by militants in Srinagar recently while he was playing cricket with boys in his neighbourhood”.People’s Conference president Sajad Lone also offered condolences to the family.
