As expected , the Haryana Government decided to appoint 1990-batch IPS officer Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor as the new Director General of Police (DGP). Sh. Kapoor succeeds PK Agarwal who retired yesterday on the completion of a two-year term.
Shatrujeet’s name was selected from the panel sent by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Others in the panel were IPS Muhammad Akil (1988 batch) and Dr Ramesh Chandra Mishra (1989 batch IPS).
This time the process of selecting the name of new DGP of Haryana got delayed because of IPS Manoj Yadava case. The Haryana Government, earlier had not sent the service record of 1988-batch IPS officer and former state police chief Manoj Yadava to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Manoj Yadava is presently on central deputation and posted as Chief of railway Protection Force . UPSC asked the reason for not sending his record which created a controversy. Manoj Yadava , presently the most senior officer of Haryana Cadre, had shown his unwillingness to come back to his parent cadre. Later on the state government has also sent a communication to the UPSC in this regard.
IPS Shatrujeet Kapoor, who was posted as Director General ( Vigilance) , was the front-runner for the top post. His selection was imminent from the very first day the selection process was set rolling. Kapoor , as a police officer , continued to enjoy the confidence of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and was given a free hand to rein in corruption.
While CM Manohar Lal cleared his appointment yesterday, the State Home Minister Anil Vij signed the file this morning .
