The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued an order to remove senior Indian Police Service officer Renuka Mishra from the post of Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. IPS officer Rajiv Krishna has been asked to take charge as Chairman of UP Police Recruitment Board replacing Mrs. Mishra . No information has been received yet regarding the new posting of Mrs. Mishra. She has been kept on the waiting list.
The removal of Mrs. Mishra as the Board Chairperson is being seen as a punitive action in the question paper leak case of UP Police Constable Recruitment Examination. More than 48 lakh candidates appeared in this recruitment examination held across the state on 17th and 18th February. There were huge protests after the news of paper leak spread, hence the UP government was forced to cancel the police constable recruitment examination on 24th February.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself announced to conduct the examination again within six months.
Uttar Pradesh government had also said that a Special Task Force (STF) will investigate the case of paper leak. It is being said that in view of the delay in filing the FIR in the case, action was taken to remove Renuka Mishra.
Who is IPS Renuka Mishra:
A dynamic police officer Renuka Mishra is a 1990 batch IPS officer of UP cadre. During her 34 years as police career, she has been honored with many awards and medals. According to seniority, she is counted among the contenders even for the post of chief of the state police. The current acting Director General of Police Prashant Kumar, also belongs to her batch. Renuka Mishra got the rank of Director General in 2021. She was given the responsibility of Chairman of UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board on 14 June 2023.
New Chairman of the Board, IPS Rajeev Krishna:
IPS Rajeev Krishna, the new Chairman of the Recruitment Board in place of Renuka Mishra, is a 1991 batch UP cadre officer. Presently he holds the post of Director General (Vigilance). While discharging this responsibility, IPS Rajeev Krishna will also have to look after the functioning of the board. While dealing with the paper leak issue of UP Police Recruitment, Rajeev Krishna will have to conduct the examination and complete the selection process in a clean environment.
