The entire police community in India today is remembering its comrades who sacrificed their life while performing their duty . Since independence from British rule in 1947, 36950 policemen have lost their lives while performing their duty. In the last one year only (from August 2022 to September 2023), 188 policemen have lost their lives. They were engaged in maintaining internal security from far flung border areas to the interior parts of the country.
Various events are being organized to remember those policemen at the main campuses and police memorials in India today. .Every year on 21st October, these events are organized as part of ‘Police Commemoration Day’ in memory of an incident which took place on this day in 1959 at Tatta Pani (hot spring) of Ladakh. Ten personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed and nine were injured in the Chinese attack.. One more among the injured , also gave up his life later.
Police Memorial Commemoration Day at National Police Memorial:
The main program in the country on Police Memorial Day took place at the ‘National Police Memorial’ located in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and heads of various police organizations, senior officers and personnel were present here. Ministers and officers offered floral tributes in front of the Police Memorial.
A special memorial parade was organised at this memorial which was dedicated to the nation in 2018. There is also a wonderful museum here where the journey of the Indian Police , from its history to its present modern form , has been depicted in different ways.
Police task is the most difficult:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah started his address by mentioning the number of policemen who lost their life in the line of duty. Started his address by paying tribute to him. Addressing this occasion, he said that the police is the only community which works in the most difficult conditions and they contribute the most to the progress of the country. The police serve the people in difficult times and all weather while staying away from their families. Policemen are not able to even celebrate festivals with their family.
Shri Shah promised that the government will remain alert and dedicated towards the welfare of the police. Praising the task of the police and security forces, Amit Shah also claimed that there has been a 65 percent decline in incidents of terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir , left-wing extremist violence and infiltration in the North-East.
Police helpful in every problem:
Referring to the duty of the police and the various works done for the country and society, Amit Shah praised its role during the Corona pandemics period and also mentioned its contribution in helping in disaster management. National Disaster Management Force was especially mentioned by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, He said that NDRF has earned fame for his work not only in the country but also abroad.
New laws will change the situation:
Home Minister Amit Shah said that the upcoming three new laws will bring radical changes in the criminal justice system in India and this will help improve the law and order situation as well . The current laws are 150 years old. These were made during British rule. Amit Shah said that Indianness will be visible in the new laws.
