Gujarat IPS Abhay Chudasama submits resignation months before retirement

In a surprising development , Abhay Chudasama, an officer of   the Indian Police Service,  has resigned a few months before his scheduled retirement. IPS Chudasama is the Principal of the State Police Academy at Karai in Gandhinagar. Chudasama, who was recently promoted to the post of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), has decided to resign from his post earlier than expected.

1999 batch Gujarat cadre IPS Abhay Chudasama  has a long and distinguished career in the Indian Police Service and  was appointed Principal of the State Police Academy at Karai in Gandhinagar in April 2024. His resignation has shocked many in the police department, as he was expected to continue serving till his retirement in October 2025.

IPS officer Chudasama was at the centre of controversies during the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case. He was arrested by the CBI in 2010 and was acquitted by a special CBI court four years later.

The reasons behind Chudasama’s premature resignation have not been disclosed. The Gujarat state government has not yet commented on Chudasama’s resignation.
