A fake IPS officer , named Hemant Pratap Bundela, has been arrested from Jalesar area of Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. Police said that Hemant was arrested when he reached Jalesar in a private car wearing the uniform of an Indian Police Service officer. To add to his overall looks and personality , he had kept a navy blue barate cap of police uniform on the dashboard of the car.
Hemant Bundela, a resident of neighbouring Lalitpur , was caught when he reached the house of his wife’s in-laws in Jalesar on Sunday. The purpose was to show off in order to settle a dispute at the woman’s in-laws’ place.
Jalesar police station in-charge Inspector Sudhir Kumar Raghav saw him while he was sitting inside his car parked on the road. Thinking him to be a real senior police officer, as a courtesy, SHO Sudhir Raghav wished him but he got suspicion during the interaction with this person of around 50 years of age.There was some mismatch in the uniform and the police cap too. At first, he was calling himself an SP rank officer. When asked about the IPS batch etc., his answer turned out to be false.
The police brought Hemant Bundela to the police station. Meanwhile, Circle Officer Nitin Garg also reached there after getting the information. Hemant being a fake IPS officer was immediately exposed and confessed the truth. It is not yet known whether he is involved in a similar kind of incident previously or has committed any crime. Etah Police is still investigating this matter.
A case has been registered against Hemant Bundela under section 204 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Jalesar police station.
Section 204 of BNS:
Under section 204 of BNS, it is a crime to falsely pretend to be in a particular public position or to impersonate a public servant. This section prohibits any activity done or to be done under such false identity.
A situation of committing a crime under section 204 of BNS is considered when – a person commits or tries to commit a crime by impersonating a public servant, does or tries to do any illegal work by introducing himself as a special officer.
Punishment:
If the case registered under BNS section 204 is proved in the court, then the punishment can be imprisonment of at least six months to three years. Along with this, a fine can also be imposed. The purpose of this section is to protect the credibility and integrity of public offices.
