Himachal Pradesh Police Director General Sanjay Kundu has approached the Supreme Court against the order of the state High Court in which the High Court had asked the state government to remove Sanjay Kundu and Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri from their current posts. The Supreme Court is because of winter vacations. It is not yet known when the hearing on the special leave petition  will take place, but the hearing of the Nishant Sharma case in the High Court is to be held on January 4.

According to the instructions of the High Court, the government is supposed to remove Sanjay Kundu and Shalini Agnihotri from their current posts but the government has not yet taken any decision on this.

Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu has  filed the  special leave petition in the Supreme Court at  his own level in which he has made the Registrar of Himachal Pradesh High Court a party. It seems  that his petition may be heard before January 4.

The double bench of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Chief Justice MS Ramchandra Rao and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua, while hearing the petition of businessman Nishant Sharma, had asked  the state government to remove the  Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu and Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri from their current posts. These instructions were given to the State Home Secretary.

Nishant Sharma, a resident of Palampur in Kangra district, alleged that he was being threatened and harassed by the police chief. Nishant sent a complaint in this regard to the High Court by e-mail, taking cognizance of which the High Court converted it into a petition and started the hearing. Now the hearing of this case is to be held on January 4.

On the other hand, Chief Minister of the state Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said  that the government will take the next step after studying the order of the High Court.
