SSB gets IPS Sujoy Lal Thaosen as its new chief

IPS officer Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen took over as 21st Director General of SSB.

It took five months for the Government to decide the name of full time Chief for Sashastra Seema Bal , a border guarding force. Indian Police Service officer Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen took over as 21st Director General of SSB. IPS Sanjay Arora handed over the baton of chief to Dr Thaosen in a ceremonial event. IPS Sanjay Arora is the Chief of Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP), another border guarding force of India. He was looking after the additional charge as DG SSB, after the retirement of the then DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra.

The Sashastra Seema Bal ( SSB ) is primarily tasked to guard unfenced Indian borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

A doctor of Philosophy IPS S L Thaosen completed his degree from Ujjain University, Madhya Pradesh. He is an IPS officer from the 1988 batch of Madhya Pradesh Cadre. Apart from different districts in Madhya Pradesh, Dr Thaosen has served different forces in various capacities, including Special Protection Group (SPG). He served twice in this elite force and was taking care of the security of PM Manmohan Singh and former Prime Ministers of India.

Dr Thaosen also served the United Nations as part of the international Police Task Force (IPTF). He was deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. during 1999 to 2000. He supervised important events like Republic Day, Independence day celebrations in Delhi and Commonwealth Games 2010.

IPS Sujoy lal Thaosen was holding the post of Border Security Force ( BSF) as Special Director General , before taking the charge of DG of SSB . IPS S L Thaosen was adjudged the best probationer in outdoor activities during basic training at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy.
