The central government in India wants to ensure the presence of Narcotics Control Bureau in every state. This claim was made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (25.08.2024) when he inaugurated ( online) the regional unit office of NCB in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. On this occasion, he also chaired a review meeting on the drug scenario in Chhattisgarh.
Home Minister Amit Shah said that today the Raipur Zonal Office of NCB has been inaugurated and this zonal office will play an important role in controlling narcotics not only in the state but in the entire region. Mr. Shah said that our aim is to have the presence of NCB in every state of the country. He said that , to end the drug trade , the government will establish NCB offices in every state and with the cooperation of the state governments.
The Union Home Minister said that the percentage of sedative use in Chhattisgarh is 1.45% which is more than the national average and the use of ganja is also 4.98 percent which is more than the national average. He emphasized on the use of scientific methods in the investigation of drug smuggling cases. He said that we need to ruthlessly dismantle the entire network by working with a top to bottom and bottom to top approach. Mr. Shah said that unless we attack the entire network, we will not be able to achieve the goal of a drug-free India.
The Union Home Minister said that the person who consumes drugs is a victim, while the one who trades it is a criminal. He said that we can win the war against drugs only by following four principles – these are to search for drugs, destroy the network, nab the criminals and rehabilitate the drug victims.
The Union Home Minister emphasized the need to hold regular meetings at all 4 levels under the Narco Coordination Center NCORD system. He said that the recently launched Mental Health and Augmentation System (MANAS) portal should also be used by everyone.
Shri Shah told all the states that they can take the help of Government of India agencies for financial investigation in drug cases. The Home Minister also emphasized the need for regular use of the Joint Coordination Committee. He said that inter-state cases should be handed over to the NCB to dismantle the entire network of drugs.
