History of CRPF :

CRPF had been raised as the Crown Representative’s Police in 1939. It was given a fresh lease of life soon after independence when it was renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force in 1949 by an Act of Parliament. On 19th March 1950 it acquired a distinct identity of its own with the presentation of Presidential Colours to the Force by the then Home Minister Sardar Vallavbhai Patel.

Mandated to secure the internal security scenario of the country, CRPF has been relentlessly fighting all form of anti-national forces for over 81 years now. Through all these years CRPF has well established its credentials as the frontline force not only in containing militancy, insurgency and leftwing extremism but also in riot and crowd management.
