Shocking : DG rank former IPS commits suicide in Uttar Pradesh

This news coming  from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is really shocking and explains another aspect of the condition of the elderly in India. Loss of  physical strength in old age and on top of that mental complications or disorders can dominate even an educated, sensible and lively person to such an extent that he cannot bear all the pressure. Retired IPS Dinesh Kumar Sharma, who took a step like suicide today, might be facing the same situation.

Retired IPS  73-year-old Dinesh Kumar Sharma, a 1975 batch officer of the Indian Police Service, shot  and killed himself at his home in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow today. A suicide note has been found from the spot. This text written on a small spiral pad page in just two lines is enough to explain or understand their unbearable pain. ” ” To whom it may concern ….. ” Beginning with this the note states that I am committing suicide as I am suffering from anxiety and depression , losing strength and health . Noone is  responsible.” At the end of the note, he has made  his signature mentioning today’s date  i.e. June 6, 2023.

Lucknow’s bureaucracy is shocked by the sudden departure of a lively person full of power, facilities and self-confidence. This incident happened around 7 in the morning. He was also undergoing treatment for depression for a few days. Vinod Kumar Singh, Director General (Security) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, said Mr. Sharma’s body was found in a room in his house. He lived with his family in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow. Describing the personality of Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Vinod Kumar Singh said that he was a good officer and I had family relations with him. Dinesh Kumar Sharma was also a good cricketer and was also a part of the IPS-IIAS cricket team.

IPS Dinesh Kumar Sharma retired from the post of Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police Housing Corporation in 2010. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shweta Chowdhary said that the room has been sealed after sending the body for postmortem. Suicide note and revolver have also been found from the spot, which have been taken by the police.
