The Indian Army lost five soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer ( JCO)  in an unfortunate accident in Ladakh last night.  The accident happened during military training , in eastern Ladakh,  when these soldiers were crossing the Shyok river in a tank. Water flow suddenly increased in the river ,  like a flood at a high speed,  and swept them away.

According to the information given by the army on the social media platform X, this tank got stuck while crossing the Shyok river near Saser Brangsa and then the water level of the river suddenly increased. The rescue team was immediately dispatched but the water current was so fast that the rescue mission could not succeed. All the members of the tank crew lost their lives.

The army has expressed grief over this accident and said, ‘The death of five brave soldiers deployed for the operation in eastern Ladakh is a big loss.’

Being used in exercise , this was the Indian Army’s T 72 tank , which has an excellent record. The accident happened around 1 am on the midnight of 28 June.
