In an extraordinary act of selflessness, Havaldar Naresh Kumar of the Indian Army , has made a heartbreaking yet courageous decision to donate the organs of his young son who lost his life in a road accident. His consent , to donate the organs of his 18 year old brain dead son Arshdeep Singh , has given new life to many. Arshdeep is no more in this world but he is still alive in the form of organs implanted in other human beings. This heart touching act of his father has made Arshdeep immortal.

Undoubtedly the  decision of Havaldar Naresh is an act of human welfare which is greater than the feeling of patriotism.  However, in this entire process  of Arshdeep’s organ donation, the team of doctors of the Command Hospital at Chandi Mandir, the headquarters of the Western Command of the Indian Army, played a very special role.

Havaldar Naresh Kumar is posted in the 10th Battalion of the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army. His son Arshdeep Singh was badly injured in a road accident on 8th February 2025. He was brought to the hospital but the doctors declared him brain dead, although many of his organs inside the body were fine and working. In such a situation, when the doctors told that those organs could be useful for many patients, Havaldar Naresh Kumar agreed to donate the organs of his brain-dead son.

On February 16, after getting consent from Naresh Kumar , the organ transplant team  of Chandi Mandir Command Hospital succeeded in removing Arshdeep Singh’s liver, kidney, pancreas and cornea safely. These organs were transported to various medical facilities to save the lives of more than six patients suffering from various ailments. The liver and kidney were transported to Army’s Research and Referral Hospital (R&R hospital) in New Delhi by creating a green corridor from Chandigarh to Delhi. Military police made arrangements on the road to create the green corridor while Indian Air Force aircraft flew to bring the organs to Delhi.

The kidney and pancreas of Arshdeep were donated to a patient of PGI ( Chandigarh)  who was suffering from a life-threatening disease (kidney disease with diabetes type I). The cornea was preserved in the Eye Bank of Command Hospital to give vision to the needy.

The experts team of Command Hospital has been retrieving organs and has recently been awarded the Best Organ Retrieval Centre by the Government of India.

In a statement, hospital officials said that Havaldar Naresh Kumar’s decision to donate his son’s organs is a great example of sacrifice and dedication towards humanity. “In a touching tribute, Havaldar Naresh Kumar has ensured that his son’s legacy lives on, making him immortal in the truest sense of the word,” the statement said.
