
Nepali Army celebrated its 262nd Raising Day with full enthusiasm on 26 February 2025. This time the raising day coincided with the Hindu festival of Mahashivratri and a special ceremony was organized at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel on this occasion.
India’s six former Chief of Army Staff ( coas) , on the invitation of the Nepali Army, also reached the capital city Kathmandu on Tuesday to participate in the Army’s Raising Day celebrations. They also performed special prayers at the world famous Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu.
According to longtime Indo-Nepalese military tradition and tie ups, the Army Chiefs of both the countries are also the honorary chiefs of each other’s country’s army. The delegation of former Indian Army Chiefs who reached Nepal , included General Joginder Jaswant Singh, General Deepak Kapoor, General Vijay Kumar Singh, General Manoj Mukund Naravane and General Manoj Pandey. These former Army Chiefs are visiting various historical, religious and tourist places across Nepal during their visit.
The Pashupatinath temple is one amongst these places. Dedicated to Pashupati (a form of Lord Shiva), the Pashupatinath temple is located on the banks of the Bagmati.
President of Nepal and the supreme commander of the Nepali National Army Ramchandra Paudel attended the event at Tundikhel and witnessed a demonstration of military prowess. An army contingent gave a guard of honour to the President.

The Flower showering from helicopters, national flags and banners with ‘Army Day-2081’ written on them were the centre of attraction at the event. The Nepali Army presented various military exercises, traditional dances and musical programmes along with rifle and cannon salutes. Apart from this, army vehicles, equipment and weapons used in peacekeeping missions were displayed.
Nepal’s Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, other officials and top government officials were present at the event.
