Maj Beena Tiwari in quake-hit Turkey

Major Beena Tiwari, 28 years , whose photograph went viral recently after it was posted by the Indian Army on its Twitter handle from a parafield hospital in quake-hit Turkey, is a third-generation soldier from Dehradun. Her father Mohan Chandra Tiwari, retired as a Subedar Major in the Kumaon Regiment while her grandfather Khilanand Tiwari, 84, retired as a Subedar having served the same regiment.

Maj Beena Tiwari is part of the 99-member medical team which left for Turkey on February 7 to contribute in relief and rescue work under the government of India’s “Operation Dost ” initiative. Maj Tiwari’s mother, Janki, said that they are able to speak to her just for a “few minutes a day”.

Speaking about his daughter serving the needy in Turkey, Subedar Major Mohan Tiwari (Retd) said , “We are proud of her… she is serving the affected people of that country in this hour. She is a third-generation Army officer from our family. Without any doubt she is facing challenges well while keeping pride in the uniform intact.”
