Kanpur Institute celebrates Independence Day with Major Rakesh Sharma

Kanpur. Major Rakesh Sharma (Shaurya Chakra) of Indian Army shared his experiences of Operation Vijay in Kargil and explained how Indian Army dislodged the enemy occupying high peaks like Tololing and Tiger Hill.

Major Sharma was the Chief Guest for 72nd Independence Day celebrations at Maharana Pratap Group of Institution. Maj. Sharma quoted The famous hymen of Guru Govind Singh “Chidi sang baaz ladaaun, sawa lakh naal ik ladaaun Tahi Govind naam tarraun”. indicating that each Indian Soldier carry immense strength which is displayed at right time. Maj. Rakesh also shared his counter insurgency experiences with the students.

While interaction, Major Rakesh Sharma also informed the students about the career options available in the Indian Armed Forces and answered their queries concerning the process to apply and preparation for entering into Armed Forces. Students, particularly Girls exhibited great interest in making a career in Indian Armed Forces.

The chief guest also expressed that one can serve the country in any capacity and what ever way possible as various alternate are possible. Institute Management donated a handsome amount for the school run by Maj Rakesh Sharma for the under privileged children and also presented a Maharana Pratap momento to the Chief Guest.

Programme started with a welcome speech by the Reader of the institute Mr Arvind who while welcoming the chief guest spoke about the valour and bravery of Indian Armed forces and their role in National security and the sacrifices our forces make.

The celebrations then continued with cultural events by students. There were solo duet and group performances. One particular skit on surgical strikes by Indian Army in 2016 was a show stopper. A solo song by Anuj of 3rd year B TECH batch “Aee meree payree Vatan Tujh pe dil kurbaan” left the audiences in tears. Ms Gauri Bhatnagar, Head corporate relations and Ms Nandini Head placements were very instrumental in organising the event and ensured a flowless conduct of the programme.

  1. What a great way to celebrate the Independence Day….with a Kargil War Hero. What an opportunity the Institution has given to its students to be able to hear and interact with a person who has been one of those who is defending our freedom.
