The Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army celebrated its 81st Raising Day at DSOI Chandigarh.

The Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army celebrated its 81st Raising Day at DSOI Chandigarh by veterans of the Chandigarh Chapter of the Regiment .

The Colonel of the Regiment Lieutenant General (retired) C Bansi Ponappa along with his wife graced the occasion. War veterans were remembered and homage was paid to martyred soldiers.

According to the Director of Defence Welfare Brigadier (retired) Satinder Singh the Regimental Raising Day was celebrated in five nodal cities, Secunderabad , NCR ( New Delhi ), Bengaluru ,Pune and Chandigarh.

The Colonel of the Regiment addressed all officers and veterans followed by an update on Regimental matters by the Centre Commandant and message by one Senior veteran from each location. The Live streaming was followed by interaction and Lunch.

History and achievements:

Mahar Regiment was raised on 1 October 1941 at Belgaum and has served India for 80 years. During this period, the regiment has participated in the Second World War and all major wars that India was challenged with after independence. The Mahar regiment was also involved in several United Nations and other peacekeeping , counter Insurgency and anti military operations. During these operations the regiment has won many Battle Honours and gallantry awards including Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra.
