An Indian Air Force Mig-29 fighter jet crashed near Agra in Uttar Pradesh today due to “system malfunction”. The pilot ejected safely from the plane.

A statement issued by the Indian Air Force said that an Indian Air Force MiG-29 aircraft crashed near Agra today due to a system failure during a routine training flight. The pilot ensured that there was no damage to life and property on the ground before safely exiting the aircraft. An investigation has been ordered to find out the cause of the accident.

” MiG-29, whose NATO name is ‘Fulcrum’ and Indian name is ‘Baz’, is a fighter jet built in Soviet Russia. It was formally inducted into the Indian Air Force in 1987. These fighters  have a relatively safe track record.

This is the second MiG-29 accident in two months. Earlier in September, a MiG-29 had a technical fault during a routine night flight in Barmer, Rajasthan and crashed. In that too, the pilot had ejected safely.
