NCC cadets parade

Four additional units of National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be increased in the Union Territories of Jammu-  Kashmir and Ladakh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has today  approved the proposal related to this.

According to  an official statement issued by the Defense Ministry, this approval includes one mixed (boys and girls) army battalion each in Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir), Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir) and Kargil (Ladakh) and formation of an air squardon in  Udhampur (Jamm -Kashmir).

With the creation of these units, the existing strength of 27,870 NCC cadets in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will increase by 12,860 cadets. Accordingly, it is an increase of  46.1 percent. At present, the NCC Directorate has two Group Headquarters with a total of 10 NCC units. These cover all three geographical areas.

The statement expressed hope that this expansion of NCC will boost the morale of the youth of the area, who will contribute significantly in nation building.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a young  military cadet corps which was established in 1948. The headquarters of NCC is in the capital Delhi. NCC is an organization created for school and college students on a voluntary basis. Its cadets are affiliated with the three wings of the military –  Army, Navy and Air Force.

NCC cadets also get the benefit of extra marks during army recruitment. However, NCC is a reputed organization which further inculcates the spirit of discipline and patriotism among the students.
