Indian-origin Kashyap Pramod Vinod Patel ‘Kash’ has been made the director of America’s intelligence and investigating  agency Federal Bureau of Investigation . Generally known as Kash Patel, a lawyer by profession, took over as the head of FBI on Saturday.

This is one of the important appointments made by Donald Trump after being elected as the President of America for the second time. Trump’s political rivals have also opposed the appointment of Kash Patel as the FBI chief.

45-year-old (DOB : 25 February 1980) Kash Patel was nominated by President Donald Trump as the FBI director. The US Senate approved Kash Patel’s nomination by 51-47 votes. Democrats opposed it. Their argument was that Kash Patel is actually a member of the Republican Party and has been close to Trump. In such a situation, Trump will misuse this powerful and resource-rich federal intelligence and investigation agency to target his political rivals.

By the way, Kash Patel took oath as the FBI director with the holy book Bhagavad Gita as a witness. Kash Patel is the 9th director of the FBI. The maximum tenure of any officer on this post can be up to 10 years.

Prior to  Kash Patel, Christopher Asher Wray was the director of the FBI, serving for seven years (from August 2017 to January 2024). He was appointed to this post during the first term of Donald Trump and he remained in this position even during the tenure of Joe Biden.  But recently, on January 19, 2025, a day before Donald Trump took over as President again (January 20, 2025), Christopher Asher Wray left the post of head of the FBI.

Plans of new FBI chief Kash Patel:
According to the report of news agency AP, Kash Patel is planning to transfer 1,000 employees from Washington to regional offices across the country. He plans to create  a big facility at  Huntsville, Alabama, in which 500 additional employees can be transferred.

A statement issued by the FBI said,  “Director Patel has made clear his promise to the American public that FBI agents will be in communities focused on combating violent crime. He has directed FBI leadership to implement a plan to put this promise into action.”

Donal Trump’s comment:
Donald Trump has expressed his strong support for Kash Patel and his plans. After Kash Patel was sworn in as the director of the FBI, Donald Trump said, “One of the reasons we love Kash (Patel) and put him in this position is that the agents have great respect for him. He will be known as the best person ever to hold this position.”
