What is Agnipath Yojana:
The Central Government of India approved the Agnipath scheme in June 2022 and it was implemented in September 2022. The name of the scheme is taken from the popular composition ‘Agnipath’ by India’s famous poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

Initially, there were protests and various controversies regarding the Agnipath scheme mainly  because it is not a permanent service. In the Agnipath scheme, the soldier is recruited only for 4 years which includes the training period of  6 months.  Neither pension  nor many such benefits  are given to Agniveer which permanent soldiers or officers of various services of the Indian Army avail .
In the beginning, due to opposition, the maximum age limit of applicants willing to recruit under the Agneepath scheme was increased to 23 years. Now the police of many states ,  central police forces and paramilitary forces have announced  a quota for former  Agniveers.
